Islampur College was established on December 4, 1973 with the help of initiatives by the local residents. The objective of the college was to make higher education accessible to the underprivileged people in the area. The college serves as a centre for education for not only the people of North Bengal but also that of Bihar. Initially, Islampur College only offered Arts courses but it has included Science and Commerce courses under its wing as well.
Facilities
Islampur College has a well-equipped infrastructure that includes its Humanities and Science buildings, hostel facilities, library etc. The college library has grown and is now equipped with more than 12,000 volumes in addition to various journals. The library network is fully computerized and also includes a separate reading room for the students. The campus is equipped with Wifi and the college has taken advantage of its fully computerized system to implement an online admission process for the convenience of students.
